'Tis the Season to be Tacky

Not to worry, kids -- my holiday grousing is almost over for another year. But I do have one last word.

You have to admit, this is the time of year for decorating excess. Of course, some people don't wait for December to be tasteless. In John's neighborhood, there is a house that has become a sort of landmark. Why? Because they have three giant pink flamingos in their front yard, year round. So, what's tackier than giant pink flamingos?

That's right. Three giant pink flamingos with Santa hats on.

However, I can forgive John's small town its eccentricities. After all, we also get to see sights like this: (click on the photo to enlarge it)

Tomorrow night, New Year's Eve, John and I will have a quiet night. I'm going over there sometime in the afternoon with dinner and a movie, and he has champagne. It'll be just me, my sweetie, some bubbly and the fireplace -- my kind of NYE. :-)

I'm kind of glad to be saying goodbye to 2012, honestly. In many ways, it was a tough year, with losses large and small. The two toughest, of course, being my mother's passing and ST exiting. There was a lot of stress, with work (or lack thereof), a seemingly neverending and ugly election, John's health issues, tragic current events.

However, there were good times, too. We went to Boardwalk Badness for the first time, for example! And to offset the losses was a tremendous, priceless gain... Mr. D, who went from Mr. Possible to Mr. Definite, a wonderful friend and play partner. His timing couldn't have been more perfect.

So, here's to 2013, for all of us. I wish my friends a peaceful year, with much love, good health and fun times. And lots of spanking, of course!

Be safe tomorrow night, y'all.

  3. Giant pink flamingos? Now I've seen everything! I recently read a letter to the editor from a woman complaining that someone stabbed two of the ten giant inflatables that adorned her lawn. I wonder why they stopped at two.

A cozy evening in front of the fireplace with fondue, movies and bubbly is what we have planned.

    Hugs,

  4. Erica, we are both lucky. We can celebrate Two (2) New Year's, each year. A Kosher one, and a Wide Wide Worldly one. So here's to you with a bubbly champayne in my hand. "May your naked bare bottom be always up. To receive from your loved one's hand his welcome greeting on your voluptous derriere. XXX Luv ya.

  6. John -- or lawn jockeys. Those were disgusting.

MrJ -- sounds good to me!

Hermione -- people don't seem to understand that when they're decorating their front lawn, they're also decorating the neighborhood.

Six -- no, just one for me. One is enough! :-)

    Ron -- same to you!

  8. In my friend Phil "Overbarrel's" back yard are several yard gnomes, which his wife calls "trolls." So he took a log, some spare pipe and hardware, and built a house for them, with a front door, window, chimney, mailbox and all! He says that is the Troll House, from which come the famous Troll House Cookies.

I think if you're gonna have giant flamingos, ya GOTTA put Santa hats on 'em. Ya GOTTA.

Sending all my love and gratitude!

  11. I have those 4 legged varmints coming though here every day. They aren't very afraid, either, unless you run at them. Otherwise they stand there and just look at you.

It is nice when you can have a lovely evening with John. It's the way it should be.

    Happy New Year!

  12. Bobbie Jo -- they're so beautiful! Such delicate creatures with those sweet pointy faces. :-)

  13. Yes, I will say deer are beautiful animals. They may be delicate, but they are tough, too. There was one deer years ago who had a cut leg. It got infected and eventually got stiff. He limped on it and I called him "Limpy." He lasted at least three years. The other deer gave him space, too.

Now there is a doe with part of a back leg missing. I saw her just after it was broken and she is still able to get around. I wish I could do something for her.

I don't like to see them hurting.

  14. I thought your home had to have wheels to qualify for flamingos on your front lawn! But, I can't help but love the Santa hats on them!

  15. SC -- right? Or a front lawn in the heart of Las Vegas. (Oh, come on. Like I'm the first one to say that LV is tacky.)

  16. Those are some tacky lawn decorations! I don't know why people have ANY lawn decorations, much less giant flamingos.

2012 was rough. Really rough. I hope 2013 is better for all of us!
