Down

I wasn't going to blog at all, but decided I needed to say something, just so I don't seem like I've gone missing.

I was going to write about my evening at the Dark Shadows movie premiere party, but it turned out to be a night of just a few high points, much ado about nothing. The good: 1) ST came with me, 2) I got to give Kathryn Leigh Scott a rose and tell her how much we all appreciate her gracious attitude toward the fans, 3) I got to see House of Dark Shadows on a big screen, 4) I tweeted about being at the Vista and Kathryn retweeted me. Other than that? I stood in line for over an hour-and-a-half, waiting to get to the autograph tables and hopefully get some pictures. But by the time I got up there, they were running out of time and hustling us along like cattle. I got no pictures. The stars were, for the most part, clearly tired of signing things, wrote the bare minimum and pushed my book back to me without making eye contact. And last, but definitely not least, the new movie was awful. Beyond awful. So appallingly ridiculous, all flash and no substance, no resemblance to the show whatsover except for the name and the character names. I could go into more detail, but you know what? This is a spanking blog, not a Dark Shadows blog. You guys would be bored, and I don't blame you. If I delve into the minutiae, you won't know what I'm talking about anyway.

Suffice it to say that, upon walking out of the theater after midnight, as ST walked me to my car, I was somewhat shell-shocked, saying over and over, "Oh my God. That was stupid. That was so, so stupid." And then, much to my chagrin and embarrassment, I started to cry.

I didn't get to sleep until past 3:00, because I'd drunk so much Diet Coke. So today, I am tired and, now that the adrenaline has subsided, finally feeling the dregs of my cold.

Tomorrow we are going to see my mother. It is Mother's Day on Sunday, after all. At least this time, I know what to expect. Still not looking forward to it, though.

This blog, of late, has diminished readership and way fewer comments. It also hasn't been Chrossed for three weeks, even after a detailed and pictorial five-part blog about BBW. Perhaps I have become redundant.

So I think I'll just back off for the weekend, and wish y'all a good one. Sorry to be such a drip.

  2. I for one always look forward to reading your blog. Have a good weekend.

  3. Oh dear, Erica. Listen, you know I'm a HUGE Johnny Depp and Tim Burton fan and even I think this movie is crap! That being said, it's nothing to get upset over. The movie will be a vague memory and a blip on Burton/Depp's IMDB profiles. Just accept that studios churn. Generally they make SPAM, occasionally they make ham steaks and every once in a while they can make an amazing delicacy.

  4. Erica,

I don't think the lack of posts is any reflection on you. I have seen it wax and wane over time, so I think it will come back. I know I tend to prefer a personal message, but I wanted to say that I love your blog! It was the first one for me and I link to others from here.

Just know that there are a lot of us who are still reading your blog. BTW, yours was the first one I followed regularly and I link to others from here. I check it every day.

I hope your weekend won't be too bad. I will give you a report after my weekend. I expect Monday will be a good day. :-) I think your Monday will be just what you need, too.

  5. Between your views on the movie and your resurfaced magazine at least we know what ST will be spanking you for next week.
Sorry it's been such a rough week, Erica. If it makes you feel better, readership might be down because it's spring and people are out and about rather than sitting in front of the computer. Readership on a lot of websites downs down in the summer. You are definitely not redundant.

  6. Probably just people busy over graduation and whatnot. I've been out of it for almost a month now.

I'm glad we gave the movie a pass tonight, as we were going to go out with a bunch of folks and see it. I wanted to see the folks, but not so much the film. Thanks for the review.

  7. Hi Erica

I can sympathize about looking forward to an event and then having it turn out to be lets say less than expected. I have seen the previews and being a fan will have to rent the DVD. I have been a little busy myself and hope to better allocate my time.

    hugs

  8. Erica, NEVER apologise for feeling down or having a bad day. Certainly apologise if your behaviour makes it obvious you're having a bad day, or if your attitude gets out of control, but don't apologise for having a bad day, or for feeling like an event sucked.

It sounds like you behaved yourself well, so you don't really have any reason to apologise. I'm glad there were some upsides for you, and congrats on the retweet.

I don't post replies often, mainly cause I'm shy, and also cause I need to be seriously provoked or to have a strong opinion about something before I will post. But I watch and wait eagerly each week for your updates, as do most of your lurkers, I'm sure.

I understand preferring the old version, though. I'm pretty sure Johnny Depp plays the CREEPY weird guy in the recent remake of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I liked the old version, the musical version, with Gene Wilder as Willy WOnka better. The remake was dark and creepy and WEIRD.

  9. I saw a brief clip of the movie premiere party and looked for you, but for some reason the cameras were on the stars instead. Go figure!

Chross is keeping us all on our toes. I haven't had the pleasure for two weeks now, and some blogs that have never been on the list appeared there yesterday. It sounds like stats are down for many of us.

Take care of that cold. You wouldn't want to pass it on to your mother.

    Hugs,
    Hermione

  10. awwww, Erica. You're not redundant.

And my god, I am almost never Chrossed (to my knowledge, it only happened once, and I only knew about it because someone alerted me that it had happened. I had no idea.), even with entries that I have had friends say to me, 'that is sure to be chrossed!'.

I don't place my blog's worth on that at all, and neither should you. I have followers (as do you), many who come from various linked venues, and people who have followed me for years. Being important enough to someone else to link to me to place value on what I write, to me, seems silly. I let the people who DO follow me, and interact with me, decide that for themselves!

You are interesting, and you write honestly. I, for one, appreciate such a blog that shares about the person behind it in such a way.

The way you feel is no doubt due to drop. The drop off in replies lately may have to do with time of year. Personally, I have been so busy that it's almost all I can do to feed myself dinner and prepare for the next day when I get home from work. It's not always like this, but it is at the moment. And I think several others are experiencing either drops from parties, a frenzy of prep for the next party, or just a busy-ness that comes with the beginning of springtime!

  11. I'll admit that I haven't been keeping up with the blogs that I enjoy as much as I used to, just because I've been dealing with my own "stuff" even since I got back from Los Angeles. Honestly, I think that if I hadn't had my shoot last weekend I wouldn't even be emotionally up to reading and writing about spanking stuff at all right now.

I've had decreased traffic for the past month or so, as well, but I haven't been investing as much into the blog as I should be so it's less upsetting to me. I would be feeling pretty down if I was going through a lot of effort and not getting any reward or attention for it! I've had that experience in an unrelated part of my life recently and it's hard to keep pushing through that (especially for people like us who really thrive on being noticed!) but ultimately, I think, worth it.

I've only ever been Chrossed the one time, still and that's still the most popular post I ever wrote. :/

Please feel better! You're a wonderful woman and I'm so honored to consider you my friend! <3

  12. I hope the cold passes quickly and things go as well as possible with your mother tomorrow. I really think that a lot of blog reading/Fetlife/online activities have slowed for a lot of people lately. I've been behind on things myself. Many of us will still be here looking forward to reading your next update, whether personal, Dark Shadows ranting, or about ST's silly reasons to spank you! ;-)

  13. I'm sorry the movie experience was a let down for you. And I don't give a damn HOW tired the actors were. They should be grateful to have loyalists attending and wanting to see them.
I wouldn't sweat the current decline in blog hits if I were you. People will always be interested in your outlook on spanking and other interests.

  14. Redundant, never!

As a new reader to your blog, I'm *always* looking forward to your posts... Drippy or not!

  15. Erica,

I hope you don't mind my repeating myself. LOL I think I got distracted and when I came back to finish, I just kept going with what I had already wrote, er, written. I guess there is nothing wrong with reiteration.

I don't mind if you rant about Dark Shadows, either. I know enough about it that I can grasp what you are saying. Heck, I have learned more about it from your posts and the snatches of it in vids. Barnabas was rather sauve. And Quintin? Mmmm. Handsome. Johnny Depp, unfortunately looks like a mime in an 18th century tragedy.

Hope your cold has gone bye-bye!

  16. We're still reading... so please keep blogging!

  17. Is there the slightest possibility that you might be just the teensiest bit exhausted? You went on a whirlwind trip across the country, you got by on no sleep and less than stellar meals. I'm surprised all you came down with was a cold. You've got other stresses in your life that are ongoing. Is it any wonder your enthusiasm is lower than normal?

Be good to yourself. Eat a cupcake. You'll feel better!

    Hugs,
    Cindy

  18. Cheer up, Erica, there is another Monday night coming soon, and I'm sure you'll be chrossed again next Friday! :-)

I know the difference between the stats in weeks when one gets chrossed and those one doesn't (I often don't get chrossed when I write about the things which are important to me but not mainstream, like, for example M/M play). But I have never experienced any differences in the number of comments (although those do vary considerably without much predictability of which posts will animate people to comment and which won't).

Maybe the number of comments on your blog is lower than normal (although I see a lot of them here!) because others are as busy and stressed out as I am at the moment and don't manage to comment as much as they normally do. That doesn't mean that people aren't reading any more, though. I'm sure the numbers will be higher again, soon, so don't let it get you down!
