Keep Calm and...

Unless you've never been on the Internet in your life, I'm sure you've seen the various posters floating about that begin with the words "KEEP CALM." After doing a bit of Googling, I found out the origin of these was a British poster, circa 1939, at the beginning of World War II.

Lately, this has become a meme, and there are sites where you can generate you own version of this poster. It's very cool, actually -- you can change the colors, the fonts, the sizes, even swap out the crown for another picture. And of course, there are several spanko versions floating around.

At first, I found this meme a little irritating. It was all over the place, and I found myself thinking, "Stop telling me to keep calm. What if I don't feel like keeping calm, dammit?" But then I came around. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

So, in honor of last weekend and Ten's predilection for mammaries, I created my own version.

Yes, she's seen it. She likes it. :-)

  2. Well ignoring the last part, being a tad wired especially at work, I too hated this mantra....I dislike people telling me to be calm but then I realized, who cares, why poisin my body with being in disgust of this one, so I too joined the team.

    I agree, Ten is adorable.

    Always

  3. Ron -- I used to have "KEEP CALM" plaque on my desk at work, years ago. It was very stressful job and I needed the reminder!

  5. We can buy teapots and mugs here with the first sign on them. I'd love to have a mug with the second. Ron could use a beer stein with "Keep Calm" engraved on it.

    Hugs,
    Hermione

  6. Yes, Erica I remember those dark days of 1939 in Great Britain, when this motto came out. "Keep Calm and Carry On". I was a school-boy, and we had drills in running to trenchs, and putting on gas masks, for keeping safe from the bombings that took place. I lost a few school friends, that way. Although it might be a joke to some now this important motto. In those days it meant life or death.

  7. Yes, the original was very important to the British and helped them get through the war. It is kind of a mantra, something we all can remember to do when things get crazy.

It kind of reminds me of the story of a 12 yr. old in one of the bunkers during a raid. She started singing and she had such a beautiful voice it helped everyone to keep as calm as they could, given the circumstances. Oh, the 12 yr. Old? Julie Andrews.

  8. MrJ -- I plan to. It will be low-key after last weekend.

Hermione -- while Googling, I saw several spanking versions. You can get t-shirts and mugs and lord knows what else when you generate your own saying at some of these sites.

Six -- this all must seem rather disrespectful to you, having been there for the original motto. I do apologize.

Bobbie Jo -- what a great story!

    1. Erica, I accept your apology. Although each of us are ''spanko's. Each of us has had a varied life of 'ups and downs'. Our ability to overcome our 'downs', makes us survive. Be it your life, mine, or any other 'spanko'. XXX I luv ya.
